�Songs & Sons� Songwriting Project

Wednesday 10 March, 7.30pm - St Peter�s Methodist Church, Canterbury

Directed by Richard Stilgoe (lyricist for Starlight Express, Cats and Phantom of the Opera) - the students of the Orpheus Centre and Dorton House School (RLIB) present �Songs & Sons�.  Just as novelists are influenced by novels and painters by paintings, every song is the �child� of another song.  In a series of workshops on some of the best songs ever written, these remarkable disabled students have studied these songs and written their �children�. The final concert is made up of the great songs, and their �sons and daughters�.

Their eclectic programme, which can feature music by Purcell, Buxtehude, Bach, Stanford, Franck, Bossi, Faure &  Ravel, also includes their own individual treatments of more modern jazz standards - a fascinating connection between old and new.

Lear, Limericks And All That Jazz

Modern classical, samba, percussion music, jazz, limerick competitions, artwork displays - entertainment for all ages!  Three short concerts in a day specifically for young families starting with a performance of Edwin Roxburgh�s How Pleasant to Know Mr Lear. Performers include professional and student musicians from Christ Church University College, Norton Knatchbull School, Simon Langton Schools, St Edmunds Junior School and Ramsgate Community Percussion Ensemble and actors from the Astor College for the Arts.

MacMillan - The King's School Words and Music for Lent

Friday 19 March, 8pm - Canterbury Cathedral Quire

King's School annual meditation of words and music for Lent will be attended by James MacMillan and performed in the Quire of Canterbury Cathedral. The Crypt Choir will perform music by James MacMillan, including The Company of Heaven, Christus Vincit and A New Song. Matthew Martin (Assistant Organist) will perform Gaudeamus in loci pace and a new work written by King's pupil Alexander Shannon.
